Speaker 1:

Hello, my friends, and welcome to episode number 60 of the One Girl Travel Podcast. Happy December. We're here in the last month of 2023 and for me, this year flew by. It has gone so fast and I don't know. I think I'm excited to wrap up this year. I'm excited to reflect on this year because sometimes it's really hard to notice and really appreciate everything you've achieved in a year when you're still busy and you're still doing a million things. So I hope you also take some time to reflect on your year and also plan for next year, which I'm looking forward to. I took some days off from my corporate job so I can focus and just get started with planning for a fresh year. Starting a new year is always so exciting and I'm really looking forward to 2024 and I'm excited to share with you updates that will be coming up soon and, yeah, really looking forward to it.

Speaker 1:

And let's get into today's podcast episode, which is something that I kind of had. A lightning bolt hit me while I was commuting to work one day and I realized that I no longer stop singing in the car when I pull up to other cars. Now hear me out, because in the past I love singing when I'm in the car, like I. I just find it so therapeutic, especially when you have a long commute. Like I love just singing on the top of my lungs when I'm driving. But in the past, if I ever pulled up to a red light where there are multiple lanes of traffic, I would always stop singing, because I was always worried about what the car next to me might think, if I look stupid or if they might judge me or I don't know. I don't know what thought would come up, but a lot of thoughts would come up over the years and I would always stop singing and I would always like hope for the light to change so I can continue on my journey and continue singing. And I realize that now I do keep singing. I don't worry about the cars next to me, I don't worry about what they think, and that's the theme for today's podcast. It's singing the car, and I know that might not sound travel related, but honestly it's something that solo travel has helped me get comfortable with. Solo travel has allowed me to feel comfortable with myself and do the things that I enjoy without worrying about what anybody else thinks of me.

Speaker 1:

I have become unapologetically myself in every way possible, and it's attributed to the act of solo traveling because, as I mentioned previously on other podcast episodes, I was not comfortable doing things with myself. I wasn't comfortable with myself, if you really want to get down to the bottom line. I was not comfortable with myself. I would talk negatively, I would hold myself back from doing the things I wanted to do, I would worry about other people's judgment of me all the time. But then I decided I needed to get my life back. I needed to learn who I was, and I took that first solo trip. And when you're solo traveling, when you're doing something that is so far outside of your comfort zone, you learn that you need to support yourself, you need to advocate for yourself, you need to cheer yourself on and have your own back. And that didn't come easily at first. It took time because, let me tell you, the negative self-talk was absolutely present on those first few trips. But then I realized what I needed to do for myself. If I wanted to have a good time, if I wanted to keep going, if I wanted to enjoy myself, I needed to speak kindly, I needed to have my own back, and I learned to do that.

Speaker 1:

And when you are secure with yourself, when you know your own self, when you are secure with yourself, when you know your reason for why you want to do things and you're very much okay with those reasons, then it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks, it doesn't matter what other people's opinion of you are. It's on you. You get to decide how do you want to live your life, how do you want to show up for yourself and your life, and you have to be okay with other people not being okay with it. And when you are at that point, that's when you just feel free and you don't care. And you sing in your car when there's other people next to you and you sing loud because you enjoy it. It makes you feel good and, honestly, who cares what anybody else thinks? Now I'm using the singing in the car example, but I want you to think of an example for yourself In your life.

Speaker 1:

What's something that you really enjoy that maybe you don't do as often because you're worried about judgment from others? Identify what that thing is and how do you feel when you're doing it. Hopefully you feel good, hopefully it makes you feel happy. And then think about why don't you do it as often? Whose judgments are you worried about? It could be a friend, family, it could be a stranger co-worker, whatever. And Then I want you to think about it what's the worst thing that can happen If you do that thing and somebody judges you for it? Honestly, what is the worst thing that can happen? They might be mean to you, they might talk behind your back, they may make fun of you, but I want to remind you that their thoughts about it are their thoughts. If they have anything negatives to say to you about something that you enjoy, that's their own reflection. They're reflecting their limiting beliefs onto you because maybe they're scared to do something that they love, because they're embarrassed. That's the only reason and and, honestly, you cannot read anybody's mind, you don't know what they're thinking, but it doesn't matter what they're thinking. They're not living your life. You're living your life, and you need to learn to live your life without worrying about other people's judgments of you.

Speaker 1:

So for this new year as we have a few weeks left before it begins Maybe make a list of all the things that bring you joy, that you love doing but don't allow yourself to do as often and Write down how can you do it more, how can you incorporate those things into your life more often for the new year, or even if you can get some in before the new year, that'd be great too. But really think about why you love doing those things. And then, what's stopping you, what's holding you back? Because you need to break through that. You need to stop caring about what other people think of you if you want to live your most authentic life, and that's why my coaching program is so important because then I can work with you. We can identify those things that you do love, identify why you're not doing it and work together to break through and have you start living the life that you desire for yourself and make the world your playground. Have fun with your life that's what this is all about.

Speaker 1:

Why bother living a life that you don't enjoy? Gotta start living. We're heading into a new year. That's exciting stuff. The possibilities are endless for you. So let's get started, and I can't wait to share the things that I am personally working on. That I can't share right now, but my goal, when it does come time to share, is To inspire you to take big action, because, yeah, it's scary it's really scary to take big action and do things you've never done before and also Unconditionally believe in yourself that you can make it work, even though on paper it might not seem that it is possible. Have your back so hard that you're willing to risk a lot for yourself and your dreams. And, yeah, all I can say is exciting things are coming, and I hope the same for you in your life.

Speaker 1:
