Speaker 1:

Hello, my friends, and welcome to episode number 49 of the One Girl Travel Podcast. I'm excited to talk to you because one I'm finally feeling better. I went to Las Vegas last week well, technically two weeks from when you're listening to this and I came home and caught COVID for the third time, so that sucked. I'm feeling better, though. I'm happy to be speaking to all of you and I'm glad to have recovered and that this case was much more mild than the other two times I've had it. So just be mindful when you're traveling, to take all the necessary precautions, because it's still an issue, even though I was hoping it wouldn't be anymore. And number two, we are getting so close to the one-year anniversary of the One Girl Travel Podcast and I'm just so delighted that you're here with me and that you're enjoying the podcast, and I love hearing from you and reading your beautiful comments and seeing your five-star reviews, so thank you so much for being here. I truly appreciate you. And three, I want to talk to you today about doing uncomfortable things, and I know this is a subject of many of my podcasts, because I feel like, with everything in life, feeling discomfort is what drives you forward, but it doesn't feel good and it feels scary and uncomfortable, of course and it's not something that many of us want to allow ourselves to do or choose to do over feeling comfortable. When you're comfortable, you know exactly where you are, you're safe, you know what the outcome is going to be, because it's your standard. But when you're comfortable, you're also not moving anywhere. You're staying stagnant. And that's not to say that you can't feel comfortable in certain aspects of your life, but other aspects that you feel like you have a desire for more, but yet you choose comfort. That's what's actually holding you back. It's not helping you. It's not keeping you safe. What it's really doing is keeping you held back from your potential and a life that you could have for yourself. And that doesn't mean it has to be this big thing. Maybe you want to run a 5K. Maybe you want to walk a 5K, but the thought of signing up, showing up by yourself, feeling the discomfort of walking or running all those miles, that might feel terrifying for you. But think about the outcome. If you do sign up for that 5K, how will you feel? How are you going to feel about yourself? What's the outcome going to be on your body? What is the reward of doing that. Most likely, you're going to want to keep doing it, or most likely, you're going to find evidence that you're capable and then you're going to use that for other things in your life, to prove that you're able to do hard things. You might get in shape when you're doing it. You might meet new people.

Speaker 1:

There's so many benefits of taking the risk rather than staying comfortable and not doing it at all. And we can use this for everything, including solo travel. If you have the desire to start traveling or just, in general, start doing things by yourself, but you're scared because you're gonna feel uncomfortable, because you might be bored or you might be worried about what other people think of you, you might not know how to do it, or you might not know how to approach new people. If you wanna socialize when you're traveling and yeah, that can feel intimidating, but that's why I'm here and that's why I'm doing this work for you, because I wanna show you that it is so possible. And it's not only possible, it's simple. Once you decide to take that first step towards discomfort, you're gonna begin changing your life. So let's use solo travel as an example.

Speaker 1:

Let's say you wanna go to Italy by yourself what's the first step that you need to take to start that dream? It would be do some research, find out where in Italy do you wanna go. Break it down into small, actionable steps. So figure out. Okay, you wanna go to Rome? Let's look at Rome. Find a hotel. What else do you need? You need a flight. What else do you need? Maybe a tour? What else do you need? Maybe a nice outfit or two. That's all it takes. It's just breaking it down and then taking those steps. But you have to actually take the step. You actually have to take action. You can dream and research all your heart desires, because a lot of us get really caught up in that research and just consuming all the things that we think we should learn or know before we go. You think you might need to learn the Italian language before you show up, before your trip to Italy, and that's not the case at all. You need to start taking steps. You need to break it down, you need to make a plan for yourself. When you plan, you will be successful, and if that plan doesn't go the way that you hoped for, you're still a success. You still won because you still took action on your goals and you're still one step closer from where you were before.

Speaker 1:

This month in the One Girl Travel Club, we're focusing on a 31 day reset and the point of that reset was for us to acknowledge where in our life we need to change what feels too comfortable for us. Where do we need that discomfort, where do we wanna push ourselves? And then we break it down and we take actionable steps towards the goal. So I wanna share some of those steps with you so you can start embracing discomfort and acknowledging where in your life that you feel that you've stayed too comfortable, where you stayed safe, and maybe you're ready to take that step towards changing your life. So first I want you to embrace self-awareness. Take a moment right now to reflect on your life, consider your physical, your mental and emotional wellbeing, your relationships, your career and other important aspects of your life and then, without judgment or any self-criticism, assess where you stand in each of those and see what you need to change. And again, be kind to yourself. Don't pick on yourself, don't speak negatively to yourself. Just acknowledge, with open eyes and an open mind, where you can make improvements.

Speaker 1:

And then there's the fun part it's visualizing your desired outcome. Take time to visualize your ideal result of your life. What does it look like and how does it feel? When you have a clear vision of your goals, it makes it so much easier to get there because you already see yourself doing it. You already have that evidence where you can picture yourself capable of whatever that goal is, achieving that goal, and it's such great motivation to drive you forward.

Speaker 1:

And then, of course, it's time to identify your why. It is so important to understand your why behind your goal. What is your motivation for achieving this desired outcome? If it's solo travel, what's your motivation behind it? Maybe you're sick of waiting around for other people, maybe you wanna live a life of freedom. Maybe you wanna meet somebody new, or you wanna try a new hobby, or you just wanna travel the world and live this life you've always just wanted for yourself. Whatever that desired outcome is, you need to identify why you want it. That why is what is going to keep you moving forward, especially when you question yourself or things go wrong or people doubt you. That why will be your driving force.

Speaker 1:

And now it's time to develop your action plan. You know what you want to do and you know why you want to do it and you've visualized yourself achieving it. Now it comes time to figure out what steps you need to take to actually make it happen, and when you're doing that, I want you to consider the challenges or any potential obstacles that might come up for you and how you can overcome them. So what are the specific activities or practices that you need to sustain to reach your desired results? Make sure to be as clear and specific as possible and write them down into actionable steps that you can take, and be honest with yourself. It's really important that you're honest with yourself about your goals and your motivations. Don't set goals based on what you think that you should be doing or what other people expect of you, and make sure that your goals align with your values and are true to who you are. If that goal doesn't resonate with you, then it might not be right for you and it might be time to reevaluate that goal.

Speaker 1:

And, as I said, it's just as important to acknowledge what obstacles are going to come up for you. Maybe you're not going to feel like it, maybe you're just not going to feel up to the task of doing one of your actionable steps. You might be tired, you might have too much work. The kids might have soccer practice. Write down those obstacles as well, because you need to acknowledge what might prevent you from going after what you want to do. So how can you overcome them? What's your game plan? To know that these are the circumstances of my life and despite them, I am going to create this goal for myself. I am still going to achieve these steps to get me to my goal, and I'm going to do that by and then figure it out, because there is a way to do it. You just have to figure it out and you need to be prepared for whatever obstacles await you on this journey.

Speaker 1:

Now that you have your actionable steps, it's time to actually take action and hold yourself accountable. That's why I love the 31-day reset with the One Girl Travel Club and I would love for you to join. You can do the 31-day reset at any time. It's not just for the month of August, it's there whenever you want it. But you have that accountability of checking in with me every day, checking in with the community and knowing that we're there to cheer you on and support you with your goals. And it's so important to stay accountable to yourself, and I know that could be difficult sometimes and that's why I built the One Girl Travel Club, because I want to support you and your dreams and I'd love for you to join us and if you are interested, please go to onegirltravelcom and check it out.

Speaker 1:

But if you want to do this on your own, you need to stay accountable to yourself and that means journaling and I know I spoke about it before. I am not the best at journaling. I'm not. I really try and I know when I journal and I stay dedicated, like I am with my 31 day goal, that's when big change happens, that's when I can see the results happening, that's when I feel even more motivated than I would without journaling. Journaling is truly an important tool for this process and for you to achieve your goals, and I highly recommend that you journal daily. Give yourself a 31 day or 30 day, whatever month you're doing this, and just stay dedicated for that month and journal. Journal what steps you want to take that day, journal your achievements that you've achieved from the previous day, talk to yourself from your future self's point of view, cheer yourself on, give yourself some motivational quotes, whatever you need to help you and support you on your journey to make sure you reach that goal, do you need to be your biggest advocate? You need to be your own cheerleader on this journey, because you're the only one living your life. Nobody else is living your life for you.

Speaker 1:

It is your responsibility to take action on your life and do the uncomfortable things, because your life is worth it, your dreams are worth the discomfort and there's growth on the other side of discomfort. So it's time to start feeling uncomfortable. It's time to start taking action on your dreams. Stop staying in the state of comfortableness. Stop staying in the stagnant life. If you're not happy, you need to put yourself out there. You need to take action, even if it's scary, even if it's uncomfortable, even if you don't feel like it. If you're, why is that important to you? If your goals are that important to you? If your life that you desire for yourself is that important to you, it is worth the discomfort.

Speaker 1:

I can tell you from my own personal experience. I changed my life because I decided to be uncomfortable. I know I shared it with all of you already, but when I started this journey, I just got out of a really bad relationship and I was completely broken. I didn't know who I was anymore. I lost myself and I could have stayed comfortable in that. I could have stayed scared and I could have stayed what I thought was safe. But I knew I needed to do something that I never did before in order to change my life. And I saw how dependent I was on my ex for my social life, for my happiness, for my fun, and when it ended I'm like what do I like anymore? Who am I? I didn't know who I was, and so I needed to figure it out, and I figured it out through solo travel.

Speaker 1:

I took that first trip, something I never did before. I never traveled by myself, I never spoke to random people before, I never ate alone, and I did it on that first trip, and I realized how capable I was and how important it was for me to push myself outside of my comfort zone. And then I traveled even more and I took bigger risks and I got even more uncomfortable, and then that led me to leaving the country by myself. My first time ever going to Europe was alone, and it just opened my eyes to a world of possibilities, that I am capable, that I am worth the effort, that I am in charge of my own destiny, and so are you?

Speaker 1:

So, if you have this desire, whatever your goal is, whatever it is, if it's not solo travel, maybe you wanna start a business, maybe you wanna create social media for your business. Maybe you wanna find a new relationship. Maybe you wanna make new friends. It's going to be uncomfortable at first. I promise you it will be and that's okay. We have to stop thinking that everything should come easy and should be comfortable, because it doesn't. Whatever is worth, it will be uncomfortable because you have to fight for it and you need to work for it and ultimately, it is going to be the biggest reward and I'm so excited for you to start taking action and I wanna hear about what you're going after, what your dreams are, what you're dedicating a month to, to actually achieving your goals and putting yourself out there and doing the uncomfortable things.

Speaker 1:

My mentor would tell me all the time you need to get comfortable being uncomfortable, and that has been something that I have used pretty much every day of my life. If I'm doing push-ups, you have to get comfortable being uncomfortable. If I am going somewhere by myself, you have to get comfortable being uncomfortable. I tell myself this mantra all the time because it helps me recognize the fact that discomfort is only temporary. The more you do something, the easier it gets, and then you up-level to a whole new area of discomfort and it's gonna just keep going and going and eventually you are going to be doing incredible things that you might not thought you were capable of when you first started. But that is just the biggest benefit of all this You're changing your life and you're creating a life that you desire, and solo travel truly is the best physical exercise of this, because you're depending on yourself solely for your happiness, for your entertainment, for socializing, for decision-making, for your safety. That's why I truly believe that all of you should experience solo travel, because, even if you don't really wanna travel that much, just putting yourself out there by yourself and depending on yourself to make it work and for you to enjoy yourself and to spend time alone it's all about that physical exercise. And then you develop the solo travel lifestyle, and I truly believe that the solo travel lifestyle is real. I'm living it, I feel capable of doing anything by myself, and that freedom is something I've learned through solo travel.

Speaker 1:

And speaking of solo travel, I wanna remind you that I am hosting One Girl Travel Group trips. The first trip is to Italy and there are three spots left and I want you to take that spot, if this is something that speaks to you. If you wanna go to Italy with a group of incredible women, you wanna go with me as your host and your coach. This is your opportunity. I don't know if we're gonna go to Italy ever again. I've been to Italy before.

Speaker 1:

I'm excited to bring you all to Italy because that was definitely the most popular destination. If you want to come join us, please, I would love to have you, and in the future, I will be hosting more group trips. So I wanna hear from you where do you wanna go? I also wanna start doing some co-ed trips. I wanna bring everyone solo traveling and I think that'd be a lot of fun, and if you're interested, let me know. Let me know where you wanna go. I wanna hear from you because I wanna create these itineraries that are based on your desires and your goals and what you're looking forward to. So definitely, let me know.
