Speaker 1:

Hello, my friends, and welcome back to the One Girl Travel Podcast, episode number 59. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, if you are in the States, and you enjoyed your time with your family or solo, however it is, you wish to spend your holidays. That is the beauty of just living life on your terms, doing whatever you want when you want it, and there's no right or wrong way to celebrate the holidays. So I hope you just keep that in mind this season. But, speaking of the season and all of the festivities that are happening right now, including amazing travel deals, and that's what this podcast is about and this is a first podcast like this, because I don't usually talk about shopping or deals and stuff but this is a special occasion because Travel Tuesday, if you're not aware, is a thing and I haven't been aware of it. Actually, I usually just look in general for sales for Black Friday, cyber Monday, and it was brought to my attention that Travel Tuesday is a thing and I've done my research and I want to share this information with all of you, in case you want to book a trip or you need a flight somewhere, or maybe you need some new gear, because everything's pretty much on sale right now and I want you to take advantage of these deals, so let's get into it. So, first off, what is Travel Tuesday? Just like Black Friday, just like Cyber Monday, like small business Is it Sunday? I know there's a small business day also, which you should always be supporting local small business. I am a big fan of that, but it's a sale. It sales on everything travel related and I have some tips for you that will help you take advantage of these sales. So, first of all, sign up for newsletters. Many airlines, hotels and travel providers are going to send out newsletters with exclusive deals and promotions. When you sign up for these newsletters, you're going to receive updates on the latest Travel Tuesday deals as they become available.

Speaker 1:

For instance, getaway, getaway house. That's the small, the tiny house. I've stayed at them twice or three times, I can't recall, but I love them, but they're pretty pricey and I saw today, because I signed up for their newsletter, that they are having a sale right now and I'm going to share it with you because I think it's going to go live tomorrow anyway, but meaning tomorrow is Monday, so that would be Cyber Monday, and their deal right now is 40% off any stay, which is insane. That deal is incredible because the prices for a one night stay can range from like 159 to like 354, 50 a night. So you can book your travel up until September 2024 and get 40% off. And the code for getaway house is all caps Cyber 40. And again, that's 40% off your stay from now until September 2024. I wanted to make sure I shared that deal with you because it's amazing. They have locations all across the US. So if it's something that you've wanted to do, definitely take advantage of this deal. Sign up for their newsletters. Make sure you get on their list, because they do send out these promo codes early, like I received mine in advance and then they're going to make it live to everybody on Cyber Monday, so you don't want to miss out on deals like that.

Speaker 1:

Second, do your research. Just like any or anything, you always want to do your research, but when there's special deals like this, you want to make sure that you're doing your research and you're comparing prices across multiple travel websites, including airline websites and third-party booking sites, to find the best deals. Also, be sure to consider all aspects of the deal, including the flight times, layovers and any other amenities, so you want to go on and check out. It really should do this in advance, but you can still do this now. Just compare the pricing for your flight from the locations that you want to fly out of with different airlines. Compare and see who has the best deals.

Speaker 1:

And I personally do not like third-party booking sites when it comes to booking travel. I had bad experiences in the past. I just don't like using third-party sites when it comes to travel. I think it's a big risk and I know a lot of people in the travel industry also recommend not using third-party sites. But of course, it's up to you. There are good deals out there, so just compare them. Make sure that with the third-party booking fees, it's still a better cost than if you book direct.

Speaker 1:

Do your research, but you're doing a research to get the best bang for your buck and it is worth it, especially around this time of year. Then, of course, you can activate price alerts. This is such a great feature and you can use it on Skyscanner or Google flights for your favorite destinations or potential travel dates, and it's a game changer when it comes to making the most of travel Tuesday. Once you select your destination to travel dates, these sites are going to continuously monitor the flight prices and send you notifications for when there's a drop. So hopefully, if you've been monitoring your flight, you're gonna see some great discounts coming your way by Tuesday. But again, you need to do your research. This isn't just if you wanna get the best price possible. You have to put the effort in and use things like this where you're going to monitor your pricing. That way you can see the trends of the price, when is it higher, when is it lower, and then you can compare them. Okay, what is the price on travel Tuesday compared to how it was last week? And that will let you know to take advantage of that pricing.

Speaker 1:

So this next tip is great for travel Tuesday or in general when you're booking trips it's browse in private mode. When you browse in private mode, you can find benefits such as increased privacy, fairness and improved comparison shopping. And when you delete your browsing history and your cookies, private mode will help you maintain privacy and prevent target advertisements and price manipulation. It's going to ensure that you have unbiased search results, eliminate the influence of past searches and allow for fair comparisons. I don't know if you've realized this, but when you constantly search for flights I'm gonna say, from JFK to Orlando and if I'm searching that every day, multiple times a day, they are tracking that. They see that I really want to find a flight for those airports, for those dates, whatever, and they can actually manipulate the pricing and make it seem more expensive than what it really is. If I was using private mode, it wouldn't be tracking my usage. They wouldn't know that I'm desperately trying to find a ticket for those destinations and times so that way they cannot manipulate the pricing. So private mode is a great feature. You have it on your phone and on your computer. Definitely utilize it when you're searching for travel and then consider alternate airports.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes flying into or out of different airports than your preferred one can lead to significant savings. Check prices for nearby airports and weigh any additional transportation costs against the potential savings. And I'm sorry, I'm still getting over being sick so I'm getting stuffy as I talk. But this is also a great option For me, since I live on Long Island. I have LaGuardia, I have JFK, I have MacArthur Airport all relatively close to me. But I can always look for Newark in New Jersey if I really wanted to find a great deal. But then I have to factor in okay, how much more is the Uber driver, the Uber ride to Newark gonna be compared to going to JFK? So you wanna factor those in, but you might be able to find a much better price if you do change your airport.

Speaker 1:

You also want to be flexible with your travel dates. On travel Tuesday, the deals may be limited to specific dates. So when you're flexible with your travel dates, that can increase your chances of finding a great deal. You also want to book round trip flights. Booking round trip flights rather than one-way tickets can often result in a substantial cost savings, especially when you're considering airlines like JetBlue or Southwest, who are known for offering competitive fares. So definitely take that into account, because you will save significantly with those round trip flights versus booking one-way.

Speaker 1:

Also, use social media, my favorite platform. You can follow airlines and travel providers on social media and that way you can stay up to date on their latest deals and promotions, because that's where they're going to share all the things. So you want to follow your favorite travel brands, companies, all the things. Follow them on social media. They're going to be sharing their deals, live with you and keep you updated on what's going on. So I definitely recommend following them on social media. And then, of course, look for package deals. Many travel providers are often going to put together package deals that include flights, accommodations and other amenities. So when you look for those package deals that match your preferences, you can possibly save even more.

Speaker 1:

Another way to save more money is to time your flights right. So when you're booking flights during off-peak hours, such as early mornings or late at night, that may also lead you to additional cost savings and honestly, I love my early morning flights. I am a big fan of flying out as early as possible. I'm sending it a full day anyway, and the airports are not as congested, not as crowded. There's less risk of flights being delayed, so I am a big fan of early morning flights and overnight flights for going to Europe. Also, use cashback sites. So there's cashback sites like Rakituin or Cashback, and those sites are going to offer additional savings on your travel.

Speaker 1:

Tuesday purchases. I love Rakituin. It is amazing because you're shopping anyway. So, if you, I have the extension on my browser, so whenever I go onto a website, it will let me know if there's a sale or if I get a percentage back by shopping there, and you just activate it and then you shop like how you were normally shopping and then Rakituin sends you a check in the mail and it's amazing and I will post a link for my Rakituin referral. That way you can sign up for yourself and I believe you get some sort of credit for signing up. But it's great. I've gotten hundreds of dollars back. If I combined it from all the years, it was thousands of dollars it is. I mean, it's free money, so why not take advantage of that? Plus, you're getting your Travel Tuesday deals.

Speaker 1:

Also, use your airline miles and credit card rewards. If you have airline miles or credit card rewards, be sure to check if they can be used to offset or pay for your Travel Tuesday purchases. That's a given. You can use those rewards at any time of the year. I love saving up my points. Make sure they don't expire, though. Definitely be mindful of that To upgrade me to first class when possible or just get free tickets. That's why I always use my travel credit cards when I'm making those purchases. If you want to learn more about travel credit cards and all that, let me know and I can create a podcast episode on the topic. I just don't know. If you're interested in that, definitely let me know.

Speaker 1:

And, finally, book early Travel. Tuesday deals are often in high demand. Getting early may be necessary to secure the best deals, so you want to make sure you're logged in, ready to go early in the morning on Tuesday and honestly, I would check them. You're not going to hear this until Monday, but start checking on Monday, see if there's any deals offered, because right now it's really just a man. I feel like it's a marathon of savings this week, probably next week. Things are changing when it comes to the sales for Black Friday, so I feel like they're extended more, but you're going to get your best deals Monday and Tuesday of this week, so definitely check it out.

Speaker 1:

I personally, I was looking for a backpack. I am not a light packer by any means, but I have my one girl travel group trip to Italy coming up in April which I'm so excited about, and there is still one spot left. Unfortunately, one of the travelers had to cancel, so there's one spot. If you have been thinking about joining us, get on it, because that spot is going to be yours. But I want to challenge myself or I don't want to say challenge, because challenge seems like a hard thing I want to try or experience going to Europe with a backpack with no checked luggage, and this could definitely change. I'm not saying I'm definitely doing it, but it's something I'm considering. So I wanted to purchase a large backpack and for most airlines a 40 liter backpack is the maximum that you can bring with you, depending on its size. So I have found a Tortuga backpack, based on the reviews and research I've been doing. It's 40 liters and, even though it's not officially travel Tuesday yet, they had Black Friday deals and I was able to get a free set of travel pouches, which was a $50 value, with my purchase. So there's a benefit here of buying the things that you need and you're looking for for travel and making those purchases in these days coming up, because you're going to get the best deals. And also I want to share this deal with you because I think it's very important. I'm going to add my links to my Amazon cart, where I not my cart, my Amazon storefront where I have all my deals.

Speaker 1:

I've been doing research for Black Friday deals as well on Amazon for all of you, so I'll post that. But right now on Amazon they have an Apple AirTag 4-pack for 80 bucks, which is a $20 savings. It's usually $100. If you're a traveler, highly recommend getting the AirTags. If you have an iPhone, I put them in my luggage, I put them in my backpack, I put them in my wallet. That way, I can track where my belongings are at all times. It gives me the peace of mind to make sure that my luggage is on the plane with me and not left at the airport. So it's definitely something to consider when you're making your purchases. I highly recommend jumping on that, and I have a bunch of cool items in my Amazon storefront for Black Friday that you can take advantage of.

Speaker 1:

I've just been trying to find the best deals possible for all of you and I think you'll enjoy them. So, yeah, get ready for Travel Tuesday. This is exciting. I've personally been holding off purchasing my flight for Italy. That way, I can purchase it on Travel Tuesday to take advantage of the discounts, and I will checking out what deals are available for me. Hopefully there's something good. But yeah, why not take advantage of these deals if you are looking to plan travel, if you're looking to finish your itinerary, if you need new gear? There have been some incredible deals with luggage and accessories and all the things. So now's the time to do it, and I hope that this podcast episode helps you out.

Speaker 1:

I also have it in a blog format so you can go back and read through the blog post. I'll post a link to that as well. And again, there's one spot left for the One Girl Travel group trip to Italy, and I'm getting ready to start planning my next trips. So I'd love to hear from you. Let me know where you want to go, because I'm going to go where you want to go. I want to make sure this trip is that they're tailored to your needs, that you want to go to these places, so I'm listening. So either send me an email you can send me an email to contact at onegirltravelcom, write to me on social media, whatever it is. I'm here and I'm all ears for you. Also, we are on the last week of November, which is bizarre. We're coming down to the last month of the year and I'm so excited for it. This is like the finale, right, the finale of 2023.

Speaker 1:

And I can personally say that this year has thrown some curveballs. Personally, my way, I have experienced many curveballs this year. I had plans of things going a certain way and I was thrown for a loop and they did not go that way and I had to just figure it out and go with it and curate however it is. I needed to live my life this year for what I was working on, and I just want you to know that you need to give yourself grace in this process, that even though you have plans for yourself and you have goals set, that sometimes life has other plans for you and that's okay. You just have to keep moving forward, keep going after your goals. Don't give up on yourself or your dreams. Just be kind to yourself along the way, because that's going to be the biggest component of just getting through it and coming out stronger and getting closer to your goals and your dreams.

Speaker 1:

So that's just a little side note there, and the December newsletter is coming out the end of this week. I cannot wait to share it with you. We have a new lesson for the One Girl Travel Club and there's going to be some updates coming to the One Girl Travel Club that I'm excited to share with my members and, of course, all of you, because I want to make sure that you all know what you experience when you're part of this membership, and I'm going to share more with you in the new month coming up, so look forward to that in December and I hope you have a fabulous day. Happy shopping, make sure you get the best stills possible, be safe out there and have fun. I will talk to you all soon. Have a great day, bye.
